比尔·盖茨与SK、HD现代洽谈核电合作应对AI用电需求
Odaily News: Bill Gates met with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and HD Hyundai Group Chairman Chung Ki-sun in South Korea on the 14th to discuss cooperation on small modular reactors and AI power supply.
Gates and Chey Tae-won discussed strategies to address the growing electricity demand driven by the proliferation of AI data centers, the future direction of next-generation nuclear energy development, and the potential for U.S.-Korea nuclear energy cooperation. SK and SK Innovation jointly invested $250 million in Gates' nuclear energy company TerraPower in 2022, becoming its second-largest shareholder. On the same day, SK Innovation signed a business cooperation agreement with TerraPower on sodium-cooled SMR projects.
Gates also met with Chung Ki-sun and Hyundai Engineering & Construction CEO Lee Han-woo to review progress on previous agreements. In May of this year, the three companies agreed to jointly promote the commercialization of sodium-cooled reactors and establish a division of labor structure.
