韩国央行13年来首次买入黄金资产,后续或继续增持
Odaily Planet Daily News The Bank of Korea has bought gold-related assets for the first time in 13 years to hedge against geopolitical and economic uncertainty. According to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the Bank of Korea held 679,765 shares of SPDR Gold Shares as of the end of Q2, worth approximately $250 million. The filing shows that three months earlier, the central bank held no shares in the world's largest physically backed gold ETF.
The Bank of Korea stated that this investment marks its first purchase of gold-linked assets since 2013. The purchase will not increase the central bank's official gold reserves, as gold ETFs are classified as securities and form part of its foreign exchange reserves.
Choi Kyuho, an economist at Hanwha Investment & Securities, said: "The Bank of Korea's current allocation to gold is fairly low. From the perspective of aligning with global standards, there is still room for the Bank of Korea to further increase its gold purchases. I believe they will gradually expand their gold holdings."
