Comprehensive Ban on Crypto ATMs: Hawaii State Bill Takes Effect October 1st

Odaily News: Hawaii Governor Josh Green signed House Bill 1642 in July, prohibiting the "ownership, operation, or management of self-service kiosks that exchange digital financial assets for U.S. currency." The ban takes effect on October 1st. The bill cites data from the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center, which reported in April that Americans lost over $11 billion to digital asset-related scams in 2025, including 826 complaints from Hawaii residents with losses of approximately $80 million. Hawaii becomes the fourth U.S. state to fully ban crypto ATMs and self-service kiosks, following Minnesota, Tennessee, and Indiana.
