Capable of processing over 100,000 orders per second, Coinbase deploys a new-generation matching engine for Deribit

2026-08-12 09:05
Odaily Planet Daily News: Coinbase announced the gradual deployment of a new-generation high-performance matching engine on Deribit. Built on dedicated infrastructure, the engine can process over 100,000 orders per second with matching latency below 1 millisecond, aimed at enhancing the execution speed, scalability, and liquidity performance of institutional derivatives trading. This upgrade also connects Deribit to the same core execution infrastructure as Coinbase International Exchange. Coinbase stated that the new engine incorporates a built-in "speed bump" mechanism in certain trading products, which briefly delays aggressive orders to give liquidity providers more response time in rapidly fluctuating markets, and is expected to help market makers offer tighter bid-ask spreads and deeper order book depth. Coinbase said that later this year, all of its perpetual contracts will also migrate to this matching engine. At that time, options and perpetual contracts will share a more unified trading infrastructure to support a more consistent trading experience, broader product coverage, and deeper liquidity.
