OpenAI’s First AI Hardware Revealed: Puck-Sized, Screen-Free Smart Speaker, Priced Over $300 Possibly
Odaily News: OpenAI is developing its first AI hardware device, expected to launch in 2027. The device features a ring-shaped "doughnut" design, roughly the size of a hockey puck, and is a screen-free smart speaker, with an expected price between $300 and $400.
It is reported that the device will be equipped with a microphone, speakers, camera, sensors, and a lighting system, delivering an interactive experience akin to a ChatGPT voice assistant powered by advanced AI models. OpenAI plans to position it as an "AI-first computing device" to help users handle daily tasks and learn user habits over time.
The product is being designed in collaboration with LoveFrom, the studio led by former Apple design chief Jony Ive. Through this AI hardware initiative, OpenAI aims to enter the consumer electronics market and explore device form factors that could eventually replace smartphones. (Bloomberg)
