Analysis: Market Digests SpaceX Selling Pressure as $100B+ Share Lock-Up Expires Without Major Price Decline
Odaily News - SpaceX shares traded relatively steadily on Thursday following the expiration of the lock-up agreement that restricted insiders from selling shares, releasing up to approximately 911.5 million shares valued at around $100 billion based on current valuation.
Trading data shows that SpaceX's stock price fluctuated within a range of less than 3% in early trading as the market digested potential selling pressure from the massive share release. Trading volume in the first 30 minutes after the market opened reached approximately 93 million shares, accounting for about 40% of the previous trading day's total volume.
The lock-up expiration came shortly after SpaceX's first earnings report. Previously, the stock had dropped around 14% amid investor concerns over higher-than-expected spending on the company's artificial intelligence business. Nevertheless, most Wall Street analysts maintain a long-term optimistic view of the company.
Market attention is focused on SpaceX's future investment plans in AI, satellite internet, and mobile communications businesses. Despite short-term capital expenditure pressures, analysts believe the company's leading position in rocket launches, the Starlink satellite network, and the commercial aerospace sector remains a key factor supporting its long-term valuation.
The unlocking of approximately $100 billion in shares also serves as a significant test of market confidence in SpaceX following its listing. The absence of sharp price swings indicates that the market had already priced in expectations for insider liquidity release. (Bloomberg)
