Coldcard: Current Firmware Will Not Permanently Brick Devices
2026-08-04 14:52
Odaily News: Coldcard posted on the X platform stating that the claim that "the current firmware causes Coldcard devices to be permanently bricked" is inaccurate. If a device encounters a TRNG fault, users simply need to perform a power cycle—removing all power completely and then restarting the device. This fault state is volatile and is not written to the device's flash memory. The system handles it in a "safe-fail" manner, which will not cause permanent damage to the device. Coldcard reminded users to continue following the previously provided security recommendations to manage related risks and noted that a fix is currently being developed.
