Hashdex to Liquidate Its Bitcoin ETF DEFI, Selling Approximately 225 BTC

Odaily News Crypto asset management firm Hashdex announced that it will liquidate its spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund bearing the same name this month, distributing cash to all remaining shareholders and selling the approximately 225 BTC held by the fund.
In a filing submitted on Monday, Hashdex stated that the decision was made after evaluating factors such as trading liquidity, operational costs, and investor interest. The fund has been trading under the ticker DEFI on NYSE ARCA since March 2024, with net assets of 200,000 shares valued at $14.25 million.
Originally launched in 2022 as the Hashdex Bitcoin Futures ETF, the fund peaked at $17.54 million in assets on May 9, 2025. Among BTC ETFs listed in the U.S., the second smallest is the WisdomTree Bitcoin Trust, which closed last Friday with net assets of $140 million.
