OdailyOdaily Planet Daily News: Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) in Bhutan has appointed Canadian digital asset management company 3iQ to manage a mandate backed by a portion of its Bitcoin reserves. GMC is currently building a digital asset investment hub.
Under the cooperation arrangement, 3iQ will manage a portion of the Bitcoin allocated to support Gelephu's development, with the specific size undisclosed. 3iQ will also establish a long-term presence locally, invest in local talent, and provide training and knowledge transfer.
In December 2025, Bhutan announced it would allocate up to 10,000 Bitcoins from its national holdings to support GMC. Both parties have not disclosed the actual amount under management, custody arrangements, or whether the mandate allows for lending, derivatives, and other yield-generating strategies.
Pascal St-Jean, CEO of 3iQ, stated that the company will introduce institutional discipline to the mandate and deploy Bhutan's capital in a responsible, transparent, and long-term manner. Jigdrel Singay, a board member of Gelephu, stated that 3iQ is one of the city's founding institutional partners.
