Odaily reported that according to insiders, Situational Awareness, a hedge fund founded by former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner with $24 billion in assets under management, is successively closing out multiple trades and scrambling to raise funds after a sharp decline in AI concept stocks and losses on bets against software stocks.

Insiders said Situational Awareness has suffered significant losses in recent weeks. The value of its AI infrastructure investments, such as SK Hynix, has fallen, while its short positions against software companies like Adobe have experienced substantial losses. It is currently unclear whether the fund is negotiating asset sales to meet margin calls or has already begun a broader liquidation of its entire portfolio.

Insiders also noted that the fund is attempting to raise liquidity by selling stakes in unlisted companies, including its shares in Anthropic. The specific size of the fund's intended sale of Anthropic shares remains unknown, but sources familiar with the transaction process said potential buyers have expressed interest in acquiring part or all of the stake.
