Samsung Electronics' Q2 chip profit exceeds expectations, citing strong demand for AI server chips in the second half of the year
Odaily Planet Daily News Samsung Electronics reported a second-quarter net profit of 71.3 trillion Korean won, surpassing the market expectation of 68.5 trillion Korean won; its chip division recorded an operating profit of 89.2 trillion Korean won.
Samsung Electronics' second-quarter operating profit stood at 89.4 trillion Korean won, in line with previous estimates; revenue reached 171 trillion Korean won, also meeting expectations.
Samsung Electronics stated that demand for server chips will remain strong in the second half of the year, and the chip supply shortage is expected to persist. Meanwhile, the memory business is anticipated to benefit from continuous capital expenditure in AI infrastructure and broader demand for self-developed AI applications.
The company noted that demand for mobile and PC chips is expected to slow down, introducing uncertainty for the memory business in the latter half of the year. Additionally, Samsung plans to increase its smartphone market share in the second half, and its foundry business is expected to achieve double-digit revenue growth this year. (Jin Shi)
