Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security Plans Legislation to Include Digital Assets in Electronic Identity Recognition Scope

2026-07-29 01:23
Odaily Odaily Planet Daily News: The Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam has proposed expanding the scope of electronic identity recognition in the draft Law on Electronic Identity and Authentication, including data, applications, digital assets, and other types of assets. The draft stipulates that the subjects of electronic identity recognition will not only include agencies, organizations, and individuals, but also extend to physical entities such as products, goods, and equipment, as well as digital resources and digital assets including databases, documents, images, and videos. The identification of digital assets will be implemented according to the regulations of the Digital Technology Industry Law. The draft also establishes mechanisms for the suspension, restoration, and revocation of electronic identities and identification codes. The Ministry of Public Security stated that the current electronic identity recognition primarily serves the digital transformation of citizens and the government. However, against the backdrop of the rapid development of the digital economy and digital society, it is necessary to establish a unified identification mechanism covering various entities in both physical and digital environments.
