Odaily Gulf sources reported that Oman has proposed to Iran a plan to establish a joint regional mechanism to manage the Strait of Hormuz, with voluntary fees to be collected. The proposal put forth by Oman has garnered regional support. It is based on the Malacca Strait model, where relevant parties using the strait voluntarily contribute funds for navigational safety, environmental protection, search and rescue operations, and other purposes. Under this plan, Iran would not control the Strait of Hormuz unilaterally. (Reuters)
