Anthropic Claude shared conversations indexed by Google, exposing sensitive information such as crypto wallet seed phrases

Odaily reported on July 25 that a Reddit user discovered hundreds of fully readable Claude shared conversations through a Google search for "site:claude.ai/share". The content includes sensitive information such as crypto wallet seed phrases, potential Social Security numbers, and legal discussions.



The issue stems from Anthropic failing to add a noindex meta tag to Claude's shared pages. While its robots.txt had blocked crawling of Claude's shared URLs, Google could still index relevant pages when shared links appeared on public websites.



The same issue also affected Claude's public artifacts, including apps, dashboards, and financial tools created by users within Claude. Related search results once displayed payroll sheets containing employee names, internal customer relationship management chat exports, and unreleased product roadmaps.



Before July 26, after Anthropic updated its configuration and added the noindex tag, Google began removing Claude-related results. Bing still displayed some shared links; one GitHub repository has archived 453 Claude conversations and 519 Grok conversations, totaling 11,241 plaintext messages.
