AMD to Establish AI Research Center in South Korea, Building an Open AI Infrastructure Ecosystem

Odaily reported that AMD (AMD.O) will establish an artificial intelligence research center in South Korea and build an open AI infrastructure ecosystem. South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 27th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AMD in San Francisco on the 23rd regarding cooperation on the AI chip ecosystem. AMD plans to establish an AI Center of Excellence in South Korea to support technical cooperation between Korean companies, universities, and research institutions, AI chip software development, computing technology verification, and joint research. It will also promote collaboration with domestic AI chip companies in South Korea. The MOU includes building a heterogeneous AI computing infrastructure that connects AMD's CPUs and GPUs with AI chips (NPUs) in which Korean companies have advantages in the inference domain.

The two parties also plan to create an open AI computing ecosystem, encouraging Korean companies to participate collectively, covering areas including memory, networking, servers, and software. (Yonhap News)
