Bitcoin will undergo an eCash hard fork on August 21st

2026-07-23 10:15

According to Odaily, in April of this year, Bitcoin developer Paul Sztorc announced the activation of a Bitcoin eCash hard fork at block height 963,648 (approximately August 21st), which will spawn a new chain named eCash. At the same time, eCash will airdrop its native token, ECX, at a 1:1 ratio to all Bitcoin addresses that hold BTC before block height 963,648. No registration or pre-claim is required, but users must transfer their BTC to eCash's self-custodial wallet. As of now, support for this hard fork within the Bitcoin community remains low.

It is worth noting that in August, Bitcoin will also undergo the BIP-110 soft fork. At block height 961,632 (approximately August 7th), BIP-110 will enter its enforcement period, and the soft fork will be officially activated at block height 963,648 (approximately September 1st).
