Odaily reported that Brazilian police have launched "Operation Veil of Maya," executing nine search and seizure warrants simultaneously in São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, Porto Alegre, and Canoas to crack down on a money laundering network involving 87 shell companies. The operation's name is derived from the philosophical concept "Veil of Maya," which refers to the illusion that conceals reality.

Investigations show that cryptocurrencies play a primary role in cross-border fund transfers within this money laundering network. Criminals use shell companies to receive illegal income, convert the funds into crypto assets, and then transfer them overseas. Currently, those involved may face charges including money laundering, tax evasion, participation in organized crime, and other related offenses.
