Despite TSMC's planned price increase for mature processes, IC design houses still demand more capacity next year
Odaily Odaily reports, according to Taiwan's Economic Daily News, following the price hike for advanced processes, IC design houses have revealed that TSMC also plans to raise wafer foundry prices for its mature processes starting January next year. Nevertheless, to continue expanding their operational scale, when negotiating next year's wafer foundry capacity quotas, they will still strive to secure more capacity support than they received this year.
IC design houses stated that during the first half of this year, the surge in quotes for mature processes from packaging and testing firms and wafer foundries other than TSMC led to increased IC production costs. They have already negotiated product price increases with their clients. If TSMC’s mature process prices are also confirmed to rise next year, they will inevitably have to negotiate further price hikes with their clients. In turn, clients will look for ways to pass on the rising costs to their own customers, creating a chain reaction. (Jin Shi)
