Iranian Military Spokesperson: Management Authority of the Strait of Hormuz Lies with Iran; US Imposition of Unauthorized Route Violates Memorandum
Odaily Odaily According to Iran's Tasnim News Agency, Iranian military spokesperson Akraminia stated on Sunday that, based on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, the responsibility for managing maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz lies with Iran.
He stated that the US attempt to impose an unauthorized route in the southern Strait of Hormuz violates its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. He noted that Washington has a long history of failing to fulfill its international promises, and the same problem exists in the current understanding reached between the US and Iran.
Akraminia added that Iran is taking a peaceful and cooperative approach by developing joint navigation arrangements for the strategic waterway in cooperation with Oman. He stated that US interference undermines regional security and urged Washington to adhere to the memorandum, respect regional stability, and take into account the interests of regional countries.
Akbarinia also warned that each time the US attacks Iranian islands, coastal areas, or facilities, it has received a firm response, and the US operation on Saturday night was immediately retaliated against. He further stated that the Iranian armed forces have continuously enhanced their combat readiness before and after the ceasefire, utilizing the ceasefire period to improve military capabilities while constantly updating operational plans to address various scenarios.
