Commercial shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has dropped significantly

2026-07-12 09:00

Odaily News On the 12th local time, after Iran announced the re-closure of the Strait of Hormuz, commercial shipping traffic in the strait dropped sharply. According to commercial shipping tracking data cited by Iranian authorities, only 11 commercial vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz in the past 24 hours, including 8 oil tankers and 3 cargo ships.

Early on the 12th local time, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy issued a statement saying it had fired warning shots at a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. The statement said that due to the unsafe situation caused by "illegal intervention by foreign forces," the Strait of Hormuz would be temporarily closed until further notice. No vessels are permitted to pass until the United States ends its intervention in the region. (CCTV News)
