Iran: Future Hormuz Navigation to Be Determined Through Iran-Oman Consultations

2026-07-12 06:07

On July 12, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Baghaei briefed on the visit of Iran's Foreign Minister to Oman and the talks held there. The foreign ministers of Iran and Oman met on July 11 in Muscat, the Omani capital, to discuss coordination mechanisms for navigation and traffic management in the Strait of Hormuz, with legal and technical delegations from both countries participating. Baghaei stated that the two sides focused on exchanging views on ensuring safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, respecting the sovereign rights of both nations, and the application of international law, and also discussed relevant provisions of Article 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. The Iranian side emphasized that future arrangements for managing navigation in the Strait of Hormuz should be formulated through consultations between Iran and Oman, and must fully take into account the impacts of military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran over the past months, and their effects on navigational safety in the Strait of Hormuz. Baghaei noted that Iran and Oman agreed to continue consultations at political, legal, and technical levels to reach a common understanding on the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. It was reported that a delegation from the Qatari government also participated in some parts of the talks. (CCTV International News)
