USDT will return to the Bitcoin network, with UTEXO issuing it natively through the RGB protocol

2026-07-07 06:38

Odaily reported that Tether is preparing to natively issue USDT on the Bitcoin network based on the RGB v0.11.1 protocol, with UTEXO responsible for the commercial issuance and distribution. This marks USDT's return to the Bitcoin main chain after many years, following its initial launch on Bitcoin via the Omni protocol in 2014.

UTEXO co-founder Viktor Ihnatiuk stated that the company has received support from Tether and will be responsible for driving the adoption of native USDT on Bitcoin. According to the official introduction, the RGB protocol employs client-side validation combined with the Lightning Network, allowing it to inherit Bitcoin's UTXO security model while enabling instant, low-cost, and private transactions for USDT. In the future, users will be able to hold USDT directly through native Bitcoin addresses and send/receive it using Lightning Network wallets that support RGB.
