Anthropic Co-founder Dario Amodei: Open Source AI May Be Heading Down a Dangerous Path

Odaily reported that Dario Amodei, co-founder and CEO of Anthropic, told U.S. lawmakers on Capitol Hill that open source AI development is entering a "very dangerous path." Once powerful AI models are released in an open source format, developers lose the ability to effectively supervise how the models are used, including the inability to monitor abusive behavior, revoke access permissions, or dynamically update security mechanisms, thereby increasing potential risks. Dario Amodei stated that compared to closed model systems, fully open models are more difficult to implement ongoing control over safety governance, potentially leading to irreversible abuse risks.
