US SEC Poised to Greenlight Tokenized Stock Trading, Crypto Firms May Experiment with Digital Asset Business Models

2026-06-20 07:00

Odaily Odaily reports that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is preparing to introduce a new policy that would allow crypto companies to offer blockchain-based tokenized stock trading. According to SEC Chairman Paul Atkins, companies will be permitted to experiment with new digital asset business models—including the tokenization of U.S. stocks—without having to fully comply with existing disclosure and investor protection rules. The proposal has raised concerns among traditional financial institutions such as Citadel Securities and SIFMA, which believe the changes could divert liquidity and pose risks of regulatory arbitrage. As of now, the SEC has not issued any public comment on the matter.
