Trump: I Don’t Want to Be Another Hoover; Reaching a Deal Is to Avoid Economic Collapse
Odaily reported on Wednesday that U.S. President Trump delivered remarks after the conclusion of the G7 summit in France, defending the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, and stating that he does not wish to see the Middle East conflict persist, which could trigger an economic disaster. Speaking at the French lakeside resort of Evian-les-Bains, Trump said: "One thing I least want to see is an economic disaster. If this conflict continues, it is entirely possible." Trump stated that he does not want to become another Herbert Hoover. In October 1929, when the U.S. stock market crashed, Hoover was serving as President of the United States. The crash wiped out billions of dollars in wealth and ultimately led to the economic crisis known as the "Great Depression." (Jin Shi)
