Iranian Foreign Minister: The Strait of Hormuz is Not International Waters

Odaily Odaily reports that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the Strait of Hormuz is not international waters, but is jointly owned by Iran and Oman, and is thousands of miles away from the US coastline. The maritime boundaries are very clear.

The narrowest point of the Strait of Hormuz is only 21 nautical miles wide (approximately 39 kilometers), with the entire strait lying within the territorial waters of Iran and Oman. Iran believes that, from a legal perspective, this grants Iran and Oman the right to regulate passage through the strait.
