US official: Israel reluctantly agrees to temporarily refrain from retaliating against Iran's missile attack

2026-06-07 23:46

Odaily News: A senior US official and an Israeli source familiar with the details of the call revealed that Trump asked Netanyahu over the phone on Sunday local time not to retaliate against Iran's missile attack and to allow more time for diplomacy. The US official stated that Trump told Netanyahu during the call to hold off on action because the two sides are close to reaching a good agreement.

The official said Netanyahu raised objections but ultimately reluctantly agreed to stand down for now. According to the official, Sunday's call was calmer than the tense exchange between the two leaders last week, with Trump not raising his voice at Netanyahu. The US official added that Washington believes Trump has bought some time, as he is convinced an agreement with Iran is near and believes Israel will not take any immediate strike action.
