美媒:特朗普对美伊协议的修改建议涉及核材料获取与霍尔木兹海峡
Odaily Odaily星球日报讯 According to the AXIOS website, citing a senior administration official and another source, during a meeting held in the Situation Room on Friday, Trump requested multiple revisions to a proposed agreement that his special envoy had reached with Iranian representatives. Two U.S. officials stated that Trump wants to secure the agreement and expects it to be finalized soon, but he demanded that several points crucial to him be strengthened, particularly the terms regarding Iran's nuclear materials.
This request from Trump has triggered a new round of back-and-forth communication between the two sides, a process that could last for several days. According to two sources, Trump instructed his team to revise the clauses in the draft relating to Iran's nuclear program. The current Memorandum of Understanding includes Iran's commitment not to seek the development of nuclear weapons, but lacks specific concessions beyond that. The memorandum stipulates a 60-day window for negotiations regarding Iran's nuclear commitments and U.S. sanctions relief. The primary issues on the agenda are how to handle Iran's existing enriched uranium stockpile and limit further enrichment activities. Trump wants to attempt modifications to this section. "It's more about the specific details of how the U.S. will acquire the (nuclear) material and the specific timeline for doing so," a senior administration official said, referring to the enriched uranium.
A second source stated that Trump also wants to revise the wording related to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. official indicated that Trump has been informed that it would take about three days for the Iranian side to respond. (Jin Shi)
