U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated last Friday that approximately $1 billion in Iranian crypto assets have been seized
Odaily reported that last week, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated in a Fox News interview that the United States has seized approximately $1 billion in Iranian crypto assets. Bessent said the operation is part of sanctions targeting the Iranian regime and its network of proxies, and the involved funds have been frozen.
He mentioned that before the U.S. Treasury intervened, the Iranian regime would siphon off $400 million to $500 million each month, distributing the money among dozens of senior officials. "We are working with allies across Europe to seize various villas, houses, and properties," Bessent explained. "And this money, in fact, was taken from the Iranian people." According to analysis by Bitcoin News, when Bessent first disclosed the figure in late April, it was approximately "close to $500 million." However, the latest figure as of May 29 has surpassed the $1 billion mark, indicating an escalation in enforcement efforts.
