Gate Founder Dr. Han: Competition in the Crypto Industry is Never Fair; The Key Lies in Seizing the "Matthew Effect" First-Mover Advantage
Odaily News At the Web3 exchange event "Web3 Dialogues @ HKU - Academia x Industry" held at the University of Hong Kong, Dr. Han, Founder and CEO of Gate, stated that the essence of the crypto industry is not fair competition, but rather the continuously amplifying "Matthew Effect" centered around first-mover advantage. Once a leading position is established, a platform will self-reinforce through liquidity, users, and brand effects, thereby continuously widening the gap.
Dr. Han reviewed each key window in the industry's cycles, noting that these opportunities are extremely fleeting. From the 2017 ICO boom and the 2020 DeFi Summer to the derivatives and Meme coin sectors, the true winners have often been the few participants who positioned themselves ahead of controversy and acted swiftly, rather than the followers who entered only after consensus had formed. It was precisely by seizing these critical opportunities that Gate has grown to its current scale. Dr. Han emphasized that in the new phase of accelerating convergence between Web3 and AI, the market favors actors with independent judgment and rapid decision-making capabilities. He advised that blindly following rules is not the way; the key to building long-term advantages in the new cycle is to use one's own judgment to seize opportunities.
