Trump Proposes $1.5 Trillion Defense Budget, the Largest in Modern U.S. History

2026-04-03 14:20

Odaily News President Trump released an outline of the fiscal year 2027 budget proposal on Friday, planning to request $1.5 trillion in defense spending, a figure that stands as the largest in modern history. This preliminary plan did not disclose many key details, including the overall expenditure scale and long-term revenue projections. According to this military spending proposal, the next fiscal year will allocate $1.1 trillion to the U.S. Department of Defense, with an additional $350 billion allocated for critical ammunition procurement, expansion of the defense industrial base, and other related matters. As early as January of this year, before the U.S. launched a large-scale strike against Iran, Trump had already committed to proposing a $1.5 trillion defense budget request.

This budget also provides funding for some new government initiatives, including allocating $30 million to support the newly established National Fraud Investigation Bureau led by Vice President JD Vance, and arranging $10 billion in mandatory funding to establish the Presidential Capital Management Program within the National Park Service for construction and beautification projects in Washington, D.C.
