New York City, USA, Announces Reversal of TikTok Ban on Government Devices
Odaily News: On March 31, New York City Mayor Zuhran Mamdani announced the decision to allow the resumption of use of the short-video social media platform TikTok on government electronic devices. That day, Mamdani posted a message on the social media platform saying, "TikTok, we're back." According to an Associated Press report, a memo provided by the New York City Mayor's Office indicates that the city government will allow various departments to post content on the platform. This policy adjustment aims to expand the reach of the New York City government's information dissemination. The memo states, "We want to open up new channels for communication with the public and help deliver the information New Yorkers need." Simultaneously, the memo requires that the operation of official department accounts must adhere to a series of security measures, including using dedicated devices without sensitive data and designating specific personnel to manage the accounts.
