Trump Administration Considers Seizing Iran's Kharg Island to Pressure Reopening of Strait of Hormuz
Odaily News Multiple informed sources stated that the Trump administration is considering forcing Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by occupying or blockading Iran's Kharg Island.
The report indicates that Kharg Island handles approximately 90% of Iran's crude oil export processing capacity. Related actions may require further weakening of Iran's military capabilities before implementation. Currently, the US has deployed multiple Marine Corps units to the Middle East and is assessing the possibility of additional troop deployments.
However, the related plans have not been finalized. Some military personnel point out that occupying the island carries uncertainties and could expose US forces to higher risks. Meanwhile, the US is also evaluating alternative plans, such as maritime escort operations, to maintain the smooth flow of shipping lanes. (Axios)
