In the weeks prior, Trump announced on Truth Social his plan to declassify government archives related to extraterrestrial life and unidentified aerial phenomena, and has instructed the Secretary of Defense and relevant agencies to begin identifying and disclosing all UFO-related documents.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed that the review of the relevant archives is underway but did not disclose a specific timeline. Former senior defense intelligence official Christopher Mellon stated that the government holds a large amount of visual evidence never seen by the public, including videos captured by F18 fighter jet onboard cameras.
