Ma Huateng First Publicly Discusses "Raising Shrimp": Can Integrate with WeChat's Decentralization Concept

Odaily News At Tencent Holdings' 2025 performance communication meeting, Ma Huateng publicly discussed his thoughts on "raising shrimp" for the first time. He believes that "shrimp" applications can enable AI to be implemented in various rich scenarios, rather than being completely concentrated in ChatBots as in the past. This can better leverage Tencent's resources, allow various business lines to work together, and also bring inspiration to the WeChat agent currently under development. Ma Huateng mentioned that mini-programs within the WeChat ecosystem have always been decentralized, and similar concepts can be integrated into future "shrimp" applications. Service providers are particularly afraid of being short-circuited or channelized, so Tencent must also consider this demand when designing the ecosystem. He stated that in the future, Tencent's "shrimp raising" will combine centralization and decentralization. Agent partners hope to have their own traffic and entry points but also do not want to be simply invoked.
