2026-03-18 02:39

Odaily News According to results released on the evening of March 17 local time, the crypto industry, through the super PAC Fairshake, invested over $13 million in the state's elections. Nearly $10 million was used to oppose Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton's Senate bid, with over $3 million directed towards two campaigns targeting candidates supporting cryptocurrency consumer protection regulations. The AI industry invested approximately $2.5 million in two House races.

In the 7th District, despite nearly $5 million from the pro-Israel lobbying group AIPAC and nearly $2.5 million from the crypto industry PAC Fairshake, State Representative La Shawn Ford, who supports consumer protection regulations, defeated his opponent to secure the nomination. In the 2nd District, Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller, backed by AIPAC, defeated former Representative Jesse Jackson Jr., who was supported by an AI industry PAC. In the 8th District, former Representative Melissa Bean, supported by AIPAC as well as crypto and AI industry PACs, defeated progressive candidate Junaid Ahmed.

This Illinois primary involved a total of five House seats and one Senate seat. External groups invested over $50 million in total, with expenditures related to AIPAC, crypto, and AI industries exceeding $35 million.
