Gulf States Urge US to Eliminate Iranian Threat "Once and for All"
Odaily News Three Gulf sources told Reuters that Arab Gulf states are not asking the United States to go to war with Iran, but many are now urging the US not to stop halfway, to prevent Iran from retaining the capability to threaten the Gulf region's oil lifeline and the economies that depend on it.
At the same time, these sources, along with five Western and Arab diplomats, stated that Washington is pressuring Gulf states to join the war initiated by the US and Israel. According to three of these sources, Trump hopes to demonstrate regional support for the military action to enhance its international legitimacy and domestic backing.
"There is a general consensus across the Gulf that Iran has crossed every red line with every Gulf state," said Abdulaziz Sager, Chairman of the Gulf Research Center based in Saudi Arabia, who is familiar with government thinking. "At first, we defended them against war," he said. "But once they started attacking us, they became the enemy. There is no other way to categorize them." (Jin10)
