Trump Administration Requests Judge to Reconsider Ruling Blocking Criminal Investigation Against Powell

2026-03-16 22:17

Odaily News According to court documents made public on Monday, the Trump administration has requested a judge to reconsider a previous ruling that effectively blocked a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. In a ruling unsealed last Friday, U.S. District Judge James Boasberg in Washington blocked multiple subpoenas issued by federal prosecutors in January of this year. These subpoenas sought information regarding cost overruns in the renovation of the Federal Reserve headquarters and Powell's testimony to Congress about the project last year. In a new court filing, the U.S. Department of Justice urged the judge to reconsider his decision. Washington D.C. federal prosecutor Jeanine Pirro, who is leading the investigation, and her team argued in the filing that the judge "applied the wrong legal standard" and "erred on several significant factual issues." The motion was filed under seal last Thursday but was made public on Monday at the request of Pirro's office.
