A Bitcoin investor has pledged to provide $100 per month to all residents of the island if the free city on Nevis is approved.

Odaily News: Bitcoin investor Olivier Janssens plans to build a libertarian community project named Destiny on the Caribbean island of Nevis. In an email sent to his mailing list, he stated that once the final agreement with the government is approved, he will immediately begin paying $100 per month to every resident of Nevis, including children. The project had previously planned to allocate 5% of its profits to local residents, but this payment plan has now been launched ahead of schedule. This amount represents a significant increase from the 30 Eastern Caribbean dollars (approximately $11) per person that Janssens proposed in November 2025.

The proposal has faced criticism from opposition figures on the island. Former government minister Carlisle Powell called the move an attempt to pressure authorities to push the project through. Nevis Reformation Party member Kelvin Daly described it on Facebook as "open bribery" and an act of a private developer interfering in the country's domestic political and economic affairs.

The Destiny project, referred to by the local government as a multi-billion dollar development plan, involves a large-scale transformation of the island's southern coast, including villas and medical clinics. The plan is to purchase approximately 2,400 acres of land, which is about one-tenth of the island's total area. Nevis Premier Mark Brantley has submitted the agreement signed with the company to the federal government for approval.
