U.S. SEC Chairman: To Consider Innovation Exemption to Facilitate Tokenized Securities Trading
Odaily News: Paul S. Atkins, Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, stated at an investor advisory committee meeting that the agency will vote on proposals regarding the tokenization of equity securities. It is anticipated that the SEC will soon consider an innovation exemption to facilitate limited trading of certain tokenized securities, with an eye towards establishing a long-term regulatory framework. Paul S. Atkins also mentioned that the cryptocurrency working group has held multiple roundtable discussions over the past 13 months, meeting with hundreds of market participants, soliciting broad public feedback, and receiving a substantial amount of written comments to understand how best to adapt rules to new types of trading. The group remains open to receiving input on the design of potential innovation exemption schemes.
