U.S. Energy Secretary Claims U.S. Military Escorted Oil Tanker Through Strait of Hormuz, Deletes Post Minutes Later

2026-03-10 18:16

Odaily News A source stated that the U.S. Navy has not yet escorted any oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. Previously, U.S. Energy Secretary Wright posted a message claiming that naval forces had escorted a tanker through the tense waterway, but later deleted the post. "The U.S. Navy successfully escorted an oil tanker through the Strait of Hormuz, ensuring oil continues to flow to global markets," Wright wrote on X, without providing further details. The message was deleted minutes later. The idea of a naval escort was first proposed by Trump last week, and he stated on Monday that he hoped it would not be necessary. Additionally, Iran contradicted Wright's claim. A spokesperson for Iran's Revolutionary Guard said, "Any action by the U.S. fleet and its allies will be stopped within the range of our missiles and drones. During wartime, no U.S. vessel would dare to approach the Sea of Oman, the Persian Gulf, and the Strait of Hormuz."
