Robinhood Advances "Retailization" of Private Equity, Vlad Tenev Reiterates Vision for Equity Tokenization

2026-03-09 11:50

Odaily News Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange last Friday to celebrate the launch of the private market investment tool, Robinhood Ventures Fund I. This closed-end fund aims to provide retail investors with indirect exposure to investments in popular private technology companies. Investors can trade shares on the secondary market but cannot redeem the underlying assets from the platform. Trading performance was under pressure on its first day of listing, with the stock price falling by approximately 11% from its offering price at one point. Vlad Tenev stated that Robinhood is continuously promoting the opening up of private markets and asset tokenization. He hopes that through blockchain technology and new financial structures, ordinary investors can gain access to private company equity, which has traditionally been available only to institutions and accredited investors. Previously, Robinhood had tested the launch of tokenized versions of shares in private companies like OpenAI in Europe as part of its exploration of bringing private equity on-chain. (Fortune)
