White House Releases U.S. Cyber Strategy, First Time Listing Cryptocurrency and Blockchain as Technologies Requiring Protection

2026-03-07 00:47

Odaily News: Alex Thorn, Head of Research at Galaxy Research, posted on platform X stating that the White House has released the U.S. cyber strategy document titled "President Trump's Cyber Strategy for America." The strategy spans 7 pages and is built on 6 key pillars, emphasizing cyber offense and deterrence, though it offers limited details on specific implementation. For the first time in a U.S. cybersecurity strategy, the document explicitly mentions cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, proposing the need for their "protection and security." The National Cybersecurity Strategy released by Joe Biden in 2023 did not mention these technologies. However, the strategy also proposes to "eradicate criminal infrastructure and sever financial exit channels," and to combat transnational cybercrime in conjunction with a new executive order. Analysis suggests this language may provide a policy basis for regulators to intensify crackdowns on mixers, privacy coins, and unregulated on/off-ramp channels.

Furthermore, the strategy proposes expanding authority for offensive cyber operations, plans to mobilize the private sector to combat adversarial networks, and promotes AI-driven automated cyber defense systems. The accompanying executive order will also establish a new operational unit within the National Coordination Center to conduct coordinated law enforcement actions against transnational cybercrime groups.
