Anthropic Founder's Internal Remarks: Tensions with Trump Stem from Lack of Donations, While OpenAI Donated

Dario stated internally at the company that the reason for the tense relationship between Anthropic and the Trump administration is Anthropic's unwillingness to curry favor with the current administration — "The real reason is that we didn't donate to Trump... We didn't offer dictatorial praise to Trump (while Sam Altman did); we support AI regulation, which contradicts their agenda; we told the truth on many AI policy issues (such as job displacement); we truly held our red lines, rather than conspiring with them to create so-called safety theatrics to placate employees."

Stephanie commented on this, suggesting that Dario's mention of donations likely alludes to OpenAI President Greg Brockman's $25 million donation to Trump.
