He proposed that Ethereum should be positioned as part of building "sanctuary technology," which means using open-source, decentralized technology to provide users with robust spaces for collaboration and value management, rather than solely focusing on finance or pursuing "disrupting the world."

Vitalik Buterin emphasized that the core of Ethereum lies in creating "ownerless shared digital spaces," supporting long-standing digital arrangements such as multi-signature, markets, and governance structures, and collaborating with the broader ecosystem to enhance resilience against external pressures.
