Etherean Foundation Releases "Strawmap" Roadmap, Aiming for Second-Level Transactions and Significantly Boosting Throughput

2026-02-26 13:40

Odaily News The Ethereum Foundation has released the "strawmap" roadmap, outlining seven hard forks planned for the 2026–2029 period. The focus is on post-quantum cryptographic algorithms, private ETH transfers, and improved transaction finality. Key highlights include:

1. Second-Level Transaction Finality: L1 finality time is reduced from 16 minutes to a minimum of 8 seconds, achieved through a single round of voting with the new consensus mechanism Minimmit.

2. Significant Throughput Increase: L1 targets 10,000 TPS ("gigagas"), while L2 networks like Arbitrum and Optimism aim for approximately 10 million TPS ("teragas").

3. Reduced Block Time: Slot time will be gradually reduced from 12 seconds to 8, 6, 4 seconds, and potentially even 2 seconds, with each adjustment contingent on network security.

4. Privacy and Security: Introduction of shielded transfers to enable private ETH transactions; deployment of post-quantum cryptography solutions to enhance protection against quantum computing. (CoinDesk)
