Gate Obtains Malta PSD2 Payment Institution License, Advancing EU Stablecoin Infrastructure Construction
Odaily News: Gate announced that its Maltese entity, Gate Technology Ltd, has officially been granted a Payment Institution (PI) license by the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) under the European Union's Second Payment Services Directive (PSD2). This authorization positions Gate as one of the crypto-native companies in Europe to receive such regulatory approval, laying the groundwork for compliant stablecoin and payment services across the EU.
Mr. Giovanni Cunti, CEO of Gate Technology Ltd., stated that this license will support the company in building a secure bridge between traditional finance and Web3, providing clear regulatory safeguards for both institutional and retail users. Previously, Gate had already obtained a full MiCA license for its exchange and custody services.
Leveraging the PSD2 license, Gate is now expanding its payment services footprint across the EU, utilizing the EU's passporting mechanism. This move underscores Gate's commitment to compliance and regulatory transparency and further drives its innovation and development within Europe's digital asset financial infrastructure sector.
Gate continues to advance its global compliance framework and resource allocation. Multiple entities under its umbrella have secured relevant regulatory registrations, licenses, or completed authorization processes in jurisdictions including Malta, the Bahamas, Japan, Australia, and Dubai. Concurrently, Gate US holds 33 state-level licenses in the United States, with its compliant business operations spanning 45 jurisdictions.
