Base to Break Away from Optimism Ecosystem, Transitioning to Independent Unified Tech Stack
Odaily News Coinbase-incubated Ethereum Layer 2 network Base has announced that it will no longer rely on Optimism's OP Stack and Superchain architecture, instead adopting a "unified stack" independently operated by Base.
According to the official blog post, Base will integrate previously dispersed core components (including critical modules like the sequencer) into a unified code repository named "base/base." This move aims to reduce coordination and maintenance costs while enabling deep optimization tailored to Base's specific needs. Concurrently, Base will also decrease its reliance on external dependencies such as Flashbots and Paradigm.
At the governance level, Base will restructure its Security Council, replacing the original seats related to Optimism with newly added independent signers.
Despite the shift towards an independent technical architecture, Base stated that the protocol will remain open-source with public specifications. It welcomes third-party developers to build independent clients and maintain cross-upgrade compatibility. Base is currently the largest network within the OP Stack Superchain ecosystem.
