Kevin O'Leary Awarded $2.8 Million in Defamation Case Against Crypto Influencer Ben 'BitBoy' Armstrong

2026-02-16 02:46

Odaily News According to a report by Law360, Judge Beth Bloom of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida has issued a default judgment of $2.8 million against former crypto influencer Ben Armstrong, also known as "BitBoy," in a defamation lawsuit filed by investor Kevin O'Leary. As Armstrong failed to mount a defense, the court entered a default judgment against him on six counts of defamation. The damages awarded include approximately $78,000 in reputational damages, $750,000 in emotional distress damages, and $2 million in punitive damages.

The case stemmed from a post Armstrong made on the X platform in March 2025, in which he falsely claimed that O'Leary was involved in and guilty of murder related to a fatal boating accident in 2019.
