Bithumb: No Compensation Information Released Yet for "Bitcoin Misdelivery Incident", Beware of Phishing SMS Scams

2026-02-12 10:04

Odaily News: South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb has issued an announcement stating that phishing SMS messages and communications impersonating "compensation notifications for the Bitcoin misdelivery incident" have recently emerged, attempting to steal users' personal information and assets. The official emphasized that, as of 18:00 on February 12, 2026, the platform has not sent any individual notifications to users regarding "compensation disbursement" or "victim status inquiries." Bithumb stated that subsequent compensation-related notifications will not contain URL links and will only be communicated through official customer service channels. Furthermore, they will not request sensitive information such as account details, passwords, or authentication data from users. The official reminded users not to click on any compensation-related links and to be vigilant against messages containing keywords like "compensation" or "victim inquiry." If users encounter suspected fraud or have already incurred losses, they should promptly report to the police and apply for an account freeze. Bithumb also stressed that the platform will not request personal information via SMS or email, nor will it ask users to transfer out cryptocurrency assets.
